St. Mary’s Cheerleaders Honored During Sports Banquet - Times Leader (2024)

St. Mary’s Assumption held its annual sports banquet in honor of all student athletes. The event was held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish Center.

Eighth Grade Cheerleaders

Megan Harding resides in Exeter with her parents, Carol and Jason Harding and her brother Jason. Megan is the Captain of the cheerleading team and involved in Forensics. She has taken Irish dance and piano for many years. Megan enjoys Facebooking, hanging out with friends, sleeping, singing in the shower, babysitting and making up songs with Lauren S. You can always find Megan cheering, laughing or trying to make others laugh. Her favorite movie is Titanic, book is “The Outside” and band is Fuzzy Pink Awesome Pandas. She loves fruit and Sour Patch Kids. Megan’s favorite memory at St. Mary’s is throwing a banana at Fred C. She wants to become a lawyer or a doctor and plans on attending Holy Redeemer next year for high school.

Bria Moore resides in Laflin with her parents, Gary and Kammy Moore. She is the Co-Captain of the cheerleading team and is involved in National History Day and Forensics. Bria enjoys Facebooking, shopping, hanging out with her friends, vacationing and playing with her puppy Bandit. You can always find a smile on her face and her phone in her hand. Her favorite singer is Taylor Swift, book is “Pretty Little Liars Series” and movie is The Notebook. She loves to wear Pink by Victoria Secret and eat pizza and pasta. Bria’s favorite memory at St. Mary’s is Halloween and winning the cheerleading competition. She wants to become an Ophthalmologist and plans on attending Scranton Prep next year for high school.

Laura Mariotti resides in Old Forge with her parents, Karina and Robert Mariotti and her three brothers, Brian, David and Adam. She is the Co-Captain of the cheerleading team and is involved in National History Day and Forensics. Laura enjoys Facebooking, movies with friends, reading, shopping, babysitting, eating, cooking and being with family. Her favorite singer is Justin Bieber, designer is Juicy Couture and movie is Inception. She loves to eat pizza and wings. Her favorite memory at St. Mary’s is the 8th grade class trip to Gettysburg. She wants to become a designer and plans on attending Scranton Prep next year for high school.

Lauren Senese resides in Pittston with her parents, Glenn and Debbie Senese. She has four older brothers and two younger sisters. Lauren is Co-Captain of the cheerleading team and is involved in National History Day, Computer Fair and Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science. She is also very active in gymnastics, swimming, dance and ballet. Lauren enjoys, Facebooking, Photoshopping, going to the movies, sleeping in and making up songs with Megan H. You can always find Lauren daydreaming or correcting spelling errors. Her favorite movie is Phantom of the Opera, book is “The Lovely Bones”, singer is Taylor Swift and band is Fuzzy Pink Awesome Pandas. She loves to wear Hollister and eat shrimp co*cktail and rainbow Nerds. She wants to become a professional dancer or a pediatric cancer doctor and plans on attending Pittston Area nextyear for high school.

Mass

Our next school Mass will be on Wednesday, April 20 10:00 am. First grade is preparing the Mass and Fr. Phil Mazetti, O.S.J. will be our celebrant. All parents and families are invited to join us.

Living Stations

The eighth grade class, under the direction of Mrs. Ann Marie Walsh and Mrs. Karen Melvin will present the Living Stations on Tuesday, April 19 at 6:30 p.m. in St. Mary’s Assumption Church. There will also be an afternoon performance on Monday, April 18 at 12:30 p.m. for the school children. This years cast is as follows:

Jesus – John McLaughlin; Mary – Lauren Senese; Pilate – Danny Gambini; Simon – Jason Kelly; Veronica – Madison Ashby; Weeping Women – Megan Harding, Laura Mariotti, Bria Moore; Soldiers – Fred Chairge, Mike Conlon, Tommy Lewis, Christian Palmasani; Narrators/Singers – Lisa Abaunza, Alyvia Agostinelli, Christine Maira, Kaya Swanek; Stage Hand – Mark Liskowicz

All are welcome to attend the evening performance as we continue on our journey to Calvary..

Uniforms

Students from St. Mary’s Assumption may still war their SMA school uniforms for up to one year at their new school if they wish. As always school uniforms can be purchased at Flynn O’Hara on Rt. 315 in the old Sunshine Mkt. building.

Voucher/Gift Card Update

Wednesday, April 20 will be the last day that vouchers will be sold at St. Mary’s Assumption School. All credits will be applied to this year’s fundraising/tuition.

After Wednesday, April 20, please contact your school of choice and purchase vouchers through your new school so the credits will be applied toward next year’s tuition.

We want to thank you for supporting the Voucher program here at SMA.

Hot Lunches/Event Schedule

Parents, now that the class trips are fast approaching, please keep this date in mind when ordering your child’s hot lunch. Most trips last all day, therefore you will not need to order lunch for that day.

Monday, May 9: Second and third grades go to Lehigh Valley Zoo

Thursday, May 19: Fourth and fifth grades go to Philadelphia

Thursday, May 26: Second grade Group Communion
