Easy Guacamole Recipe (2024)

THIS EASY GUACAMOLERECIPE IS:PALEO, PRIMAL, GLUTEN FREE, VEGETARIAN, VEGAN, LOW CARB & WHEAT BELLY FRIENDLY... NOT TO MENTION DELICIOUS.

When I think about guacamole, I think about a putting together a fiesta! There's just something special when you combine fresh cilantro, perfectly ripe avocados, delicious roasted garlic, shallots, tomatoes and some zesty lime juice. It's just begging to be put on fajitas, nachos or on a kick ass Southwest salad. No matter how you use it, take a minute to make it fresh! Fresh guacamole will always beat any store bought... unless it is fromChica de Gallo(no, this is not a paid advertisem*nt!) which is really good too.

For this easy guacamole recipe, the only equipment you need is a cutting board, sharp knife, a bowl, one fork and one spoon. Really, you don't even need the spoon if you peel the avocado. It's just easier to scoop out the green deliciousness with the spoon.

QUICK COOKING TIP:Speaking of avocados... Here's an AWESOME tip if you love them as much as I do. So I buy between six and ten avocados every week. Did I mention that I love them? I always had trouble with them all becoming ripe at the same time and then I couldn't eat them all fast enough before they went bad. Well, I learned a trick from a friend who owns a Mexican restaurant. Once your avocados start to ripen, put them in the refrigerator. They will hold at a nice ripeness foranother 4-5 days. Plenty of time to whip up this easy guacamole recipe or add to eggs or even to a delicious watercress salad with some bacon and lemon vinaigrette.

Let's get to this easy guacamole recipe... quick like a bunny!

Final Thoughts on the Super Easy Guacamole Recipe:

Keep in mind that recipes are more like guidelines than something you have to follow exactly. If you don't like cayenne or tomatoes, substitute them for something else that you like. I've had blue cheese guacamole, mango guacamole, bacon & sage guacamole, tomatillo guacamole, ramp guacamole, spinach guacamole... and the list goes on! Basically you are looking for a good acid to work against the fatty avocado with some spices tossed in and a bit of veggie for crunch!

If you want some practice or are just wonderinghow to peel avocado, check out my quick picture tutorial. It only takes 4 steps! For guac, just scooping out the good stuff is easy enough.

What are your favorite guacamole recipes? I love this recipe with mylow carb chicken fajitasand my favoritepulled pork taco recipe!! My favorite part of our Mexican fiesta parties are the delicious "no-mix" margaritas that Caroline makes. They are so good. Maybe I'll post that recipe up soon. Thoughts?

In the meantime, give this super easy guacamole recipe a shot or post up links to your favorite guac recipes- would love to see them. Thanks for reading!

Mash avocado in a medium serving bowl. Stir in onion, tomato, and garlic. Season with lime juice, salt, and pepper. Cover and chill guacamole for 30 minutes to allow flavors to blend.

What is traditional guacamole made of? ›

Here's all you need for traditional guacamole: ripe avocados, coriander/cilantro, red onions, jalapeño or Serrano chilli, lime and salt. Avoid unnecessary fillers such as sour cream and cream cheese. They only dilute flavour. Popular optional extras include: garlic, tomato, cumin powder.

What makes guacamole taste better? ›

If you taste your guac and it is bland, start with more salt. Next, add lime juice. Often an additional pop of citrus is all guac needs to come alive and taste better. If you still aren't happy with the taste, you can rely on mix-ins to jazz it up.

What ingredients are good in guacamole? ›

Authentic guacamole recipes are made with just a few simple ingredients – avocados, onion, tomatoes, cilantro, jalapeno pepper, lime juice, garlic, and salt.

Should I put tomatoes in my guacamole? ›

Onion — the most typical onions used are white onion or red onion. My Mexican grandma-in-law swears by red onion in guac. Tomatoes — not all guac recipes have tomatoes in them but I sure love tomatoes in mine. I remove the seeds of the tomatoes so the guacamole doesn't become soggy.

Can you use lemon juice instead of lime juice in guacamole? ›

I like the flavor better with lemon juice, but lime works too. If you're out of fresh lemons or limes, try using bottled lime or lemon juice. Although, freshly squeezed juice is definitely the best! Salt: Salt enhances the flavors and brings it all together.

Do you put tomato in guacamole? ›

Authentic guacamole doesn't contain fillers and unnecessary ingredients. All you need is avocados, onion, tomatoes, cilantro, jalapeno pepper, lime juice, garlic, and salt.

What kind of onion for guacamole? ›

Add milk or cream to make your guacamole denser. Place slices or cubes of fresh cheese on top of your guac. Add chopped mint to make your guacamole even fresher. Mango cubes add an unexpected touch and also keep your guac from turning brown.

Method #2: Covering the Guac With Avocado Peels

The technique: Pressing the avocado peels flat against the guacamole surface shields the dip from air. If air can't reach it, browning can't occur. The results: Good luck keeping the peels flat.

"The flesh of the avocado oxidizes quickly — much like a cut apple — which changes the color.

How long does homemade guacamole last? ›

From the second you crack open that avocado, it's a race against the clock before it goes brown. But with the right prep, you can make guacamole last in the fridge for three to four days. Planning on storing guacamole in the freezer? It should last for three to four months.

Is guacamole just crushed avocado? ›

Guacamole is traditionally made by mashing peeled, ripe avocados and salt with a molcajete y tejolote (mortar and pestle). Recipes often call for lime juice, cilantro, onions, and jalapeños. Some non-traditional recipes may call for sour cream, tomatoes, basil, or peas.

Can you use lemon juice instead of lime juice for guacamole? ›
