For many people, especially women, caring for others comes more naturally than caring for ourselves. Sometimes we even pride ourselves in being everything to everyone by striving to be the best at every role we play; however, the real challenge lies in taking care of ourselves. When we don’t take the time to nurture our needs and desires, it doesn’t take long to get lost in others’ priorities, worries, and expectations. These combinations maybelong to work, family, and even philanthropy. Over the last several months, I had become one of those people who had gotten sucked into everyone else’s world but my own.As a result, it felt like I was constantly giving from an empty tank leaving me frustrated and fed up. In my head, mylife became all about everyone else but me. Finally, last month, I decided to stop wallowing and start doing to change my circ*mstances and mental state. I reckoned that if I didn’t, I would spiral quickly, and it would be harder to come out of that valley. In this week’s bog, I share how I’ve slowly started to give more to myself, and how that’s helped me feel more connected, happy, and, frankly, sane! #healthcoach #mindset #nutrition #selfcare #health #wellness

Recently, my family went on a short vacation to Benares, a city in northern India, and brought back some local delicacies. One of the items they returned withwas a stack of potato papad, which is a thin Indian wafer eaten fried or roasted. As I relished the papad, I had a sneaky suspicion that I’d tried it before, but that seemed impossible. I’ve never visited Benares, and I couldn’t remember ever tasting anything from there either. Regardless, the next day it occurred to me like a bolt of lightning: My father used to travel to Benares for work, and he would always return with those papads and another Benares specialty, stuffed red chili pickle. In my childhood, I loved both items and enthusiastically looked forward to them along with my father’s return. This specific recollection took me by surprise, because I hadn’t thought of it in years to the point where I’d almost forgotten about it. It was then that I realized how easy it is to remember and hold on to negative memories over the positive ones. In this week’s blog, I share how to cherish and intentionally make room for nostalgia than mindlessly reliving the painful past.

Last week felt like a whirlwind of mental and performance tests. For the second time, I pursued the driving exam and succeededafter miserably failing the first time around. Life is a blend of such trials and experiments. Sometimes, we know what we’re doing, but majority of the times, we give it our best hoping it sticks. In this week’s blog, I share what I did to get through the most basic of tests, which iswhat gets me through challenging times. I share this anecdote to remind you that there is no end game in life, because it’s mostly about consistent support, desire, and work.

Last week, I was tasked with a responsibility that I haven’t undertaken in many years. It may not seem like a big deal, but I had to oversee the family restaurant while the family was out. Typically, I spend time at the restaurant to help on the busier days or as an alternative workspace on the slower days. This time it was different as I was the only family member in charge. I felt anxious and overwhelmed, and I ran through all the worst-casescenarios in my head from staff no-call, no-shows to running out of supplies and ingredients. The day finally arrived, and it was eventful, but I survived the adventure. In this week’s blog, I share how we are allowed to be stressed, how we can destigmatize the stigmas associated with that stress, and how we can face such situations without losing complete sleep over them. #stress #anxiety #coping #stressrelief #help #selftalk #health #wellness

For the past month, I’ve felt an ache in my heart grieving lost relationships – familial and otherwise. Every single day, I’ve had the same sense of loss, anger, and sadness. The same dialogues and scenarios run through my head that leave me in tears, which I hold back as a false show of strength. The reason for these emotions stems from severed ties with certain family and friends in the last year. Although I won’t disclose the details of what occurred, I will share some ways that are helping me cope and heal. I’ll be at my most vulnerable for three reasons. One of them is whether you feel a sense of abandonment, grief or any kind of heartache, then please know that you are not alone. Another reason is to remind you of the tools at your disposable that can help you get through these difficult times. The most important reason is to send you immense strength and courage to keep working on your healing process. #healing #health #wellness #pain #closure #emotions
